Just recently we were able to respond to the community’s needs by establishing a new class for early learning. Especially designed for three- and four-year olds, we call this program “Bunnies” (morning class) and “Puppies” (afternoon class). With funding from the SE Asia Foundation we were able to set up the new classroom and cover the teacher’s salary for a full year. Attendance is now up to 15 students in the morning, and another 13 in the afternoon.
The Bunny and Puppy curriculum is a play-based program with an emphasis on developing fine and gross motor skills to enhance school readiness. Sharing, hygiene skills, health education, and emotional regulation activities further support their preparation for government school. In addition, activities introducing English to the students and child safety awareness further support their transition to the structured learning they will receive in government school.
Take a look. You can see the room in action.
Parents were given progress reports on their children at two recent meetings. They were very happy with the program and the results being achieved. Mothers commented that they had more time for themselves to prepare food for the family or to go to work. They also said the children were calmer and quieter at home, a blessing for the mothers.
